In addition to our primary source of truth, scripture as the word of God, our creator also intended for us to have other men in our lives as a sounding board for guidance. Some of these thoughts or quotes below, structured as a F.A.Q. page, are inspirational and provide a good gateway to seeking God-inspired truth in your life. Again, these are not meant as a final answer on topics, but rather to pique your interest into deeper study.
Scripture Reading
Sometimes having mental models to help guide how we read God’s word can allow us to get much more out of it. Below are some practices that others have shared:
- The SPECS model: Keep these in mind when reading specific passages:
- S – sins to avoid
- P – promises to remember
- E – examples to follow
- C – commands to keep
- S – significant truths
- Meditating on the word before/after reading by simply asking God these questions as a form of prayer:
- What do you want me to know?
- What do you want me to confess?
- What do you want me to pray?
- What do you want me to do?
Do I need a physical bible?
We wrote a blog post about just that. Take a look at the Phone App vs Physical Bible article for more.
Do you have any ideas for how I can pray?
We know that God hears all prayers and petitions, but we’re also called to reverence and diligence in our believership. Try some of these models if seeking to add some intentionality to your prayers:
- A – Adoration
- C – Confession
- T – Thanksgiving
- S – Supplication
